Freedom Calls by Barbara Lewis

The play begins in 2017, engaging with America’s unending fratricidal war. The core of the drama involves three 19th century women: Mary Richards, canny, educated slave, a mole in the southern White House; her pro-North owner, Elizabeth van Lew; and novelist Harriet Beecher Stowe, scribe of southern slavery. The war’s angry, long shadow still haunts the nation into the present day.
